What is reproductive psychiatry?Reproductive psychiatry, also sometimes called perinatal psychiatry, is a specialized area of mental health care that focuses on women at every stage of childbearing, from planning to postpartum. Because of the hormonal changes and other biological changes during this time period, specialty care is valuable.

Do I have to take medications to be under your care? No. We will work together to decide if medication would be a helpful part of your treatment plan. However, there are certainly times where I can provide a watchful eye in someone who was previously on medication or offer non-pharmacological treatment options or brief psychotherapeutic interventions. Please note, I am primarily a psychopharmacologist (i.e. I manage medications that affect the brain) and not a psychotherapist, so if you are seeking counseling or psychotherapy exclusively, I am not the best fit for you.
-
Do you also accept patients who are not dealing with reproductive-related concerns?Yes! I primarily treat women, though accept women and men ages 18-65 into my practice. I treat primarily mood disorders (depression and bipolar) and anxiety disorders (including OCD, PTSD, and panic disorder), as well as ADHD.

How do you handle communication between scheduled appointments?I use an electronic health record for all scheduling, charting, secure email messaging, and billing. If you have any paperwork that requires completion, I request that you schedule an appointment prior to the deadline for submission so that we can discuss the request. Occasional brief phone calls (less than 10 minutes) are okay, but if more than 10 minutes are necessary, it is best to schedule an appointment.

Do you accept insurance?I do not accept any insurance plans. My goal is to provide individualized care that is not possible under the constraints provided by insurance companies. I cannot treat anyone who has Medicare or Medicaid coverage in this practice. No exceptions. Depending on your insurance carrier, you may be eligible for reimbursement from your insurance company for out of network services. I am happy to provide an invoice (AKA superbill) to you for submission to insurance for reimbursement. I recommend that you contact your insurance carrier to inquire about "out-of-network" coverage. Here are several questions to consider asking: -Do I have an annual deductible? -What percentage of the outpatient mental health services provided by a psychiatrist is reimbursed? -How many visits do I have annually? -Are there limitations on the conditions/diagnoses that can be reimbursed? -Do I need pre-authorization? I accept the following forms of payment: Cash, credit cards, FSA (Flexible Spending Account) or HSA (Health Savings Account)
-
What if I cannot keep a scheduled appointment?I require 24 hour notice for cancellation of an appointment. If you cancel an appointment within 24 hours or do not show for the appointment, you will be billed for the full fee of the visit.
